DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions: Reads water meters and records reading of consumption via hand-held data entry device; re-reads meters on which complaints have been received; performs clerical work in conjunction with the maintenance of meter reading records; reports irregularities such as meters out of order, leaks in boxes, vacancies, occupancies, theft of water, broken seals, meter change outs, meter numbers and locations, bad dogs, and skipped accounts; reports on meter box and service address conditions; reports possible safety violations/hazards to reduce accidents to general public.

Other Job Functions: May assist in turning meters on and off; locate and uncover meters; assists with surveys and special projects as needed; performs other duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS

Works outside in all kinds of weather; exposed to possibility of dog bites and other animal bites; may be required to deal with irate customers. Works 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Overtime when necessary.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: Some knowledge of geography and street locations of the city; knowledge of CRT and other electronic data entry equipment such as 10-key calculators.

Skills/Abilities: Ability to make arithmetic computations quickly and accurately; ability to write legibly and accurately; ability to use such tools as a meter box key, large screwdrivers and shovels; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with peers, public and other employees; ability to enter data quickly and accurately.

Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly sees and hears; frequently drives, reaches, reads, sits, stands, bends, kneels, squats, walks, stoops, digs, operates a two-way radio, lifts objects weighing up to 65 lbs., performs data entry; infrequently climbs.

Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum six (6) months CRT or clerical experience, including experience with data entry/10 key operations; outdoor/field experience preferred.

Other: Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Must have reliable transportation and proof of liability insurance. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
