DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions: Serves as working leader and supervisor for a crew or crews engaged in the excavation and maintenance of the City's above and underground drainage systems; assigns work schedule and duties to various crews; directs and performs such tasks as large excavator operation; interprets grade elevation stakes; oversees trucks that carry construction or waste material; keeps records of work accomplished; orders materials and oversees installation of bridge guardrails; oversees maintenance of lift stations; services vehicles and reports malfunctions; contacts citizens concerning requests; inspects work performed by crews for quality and compliance with instructions; enforces safety regulations; trains subordinate staff; serves as supervisor for one (1) gradall crew , two (2) jet vacuum crews, one (1) drainage construction crew and a transport crew; provides input for and may conduct performance evaluations; acts as the General Foreman in his/her absence.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather; may be exposed to dirt, dust, grime, noise, traffic hazards and hazards of working around operating equipment and construction sites.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of gradall and excavator operation; extensive knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques used in ditching and pipe setting or replacement operations, considerable knowledge of repair and maintenance practices applicable to the safe and efficient use of tools and equipment; knowledge of the safety precautions applicable to the work.
Skills/Abilities: Skilled in the use of materials and equipment involved in ditching operations, pipe laying and repair; ability to lay out, plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates, unskilled and semi-skilled employees; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions as well as diagrams, sketches and prepared construction plans; ability to shoot, layout, understand and interpret grade elevations as related to drainage operations and read and understand blueprints; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the public.
Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly sees; frequently sits, stands, walks, bends, drives, writes by hand; infrequently kneels, stoops, squats, crawls, twists body, runs, holds, lifts, pushes and pulls objects weighing up to 50 lbs; infrequently cleans, files, sorts and uses a calculator.
Education/Experience: Requires graduation from high school or equivalent; minimum five (5) years experience in public works or related maintenance, repair and construction activities; minimum one (1) year supervisory experience required.
Other: Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid driver's license equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Class B/CDL driver license within three (3) months of employment Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
