DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions: Performs unskilled manual tasks involved in the maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of walkways, parks, lawns, ditches and gutters. Pick up litter and empties large trash cans; mows grass, uses weedeater and edges; trims shrubs and brush; digs holes and ditches with a shovel; cleans park building including restrooms, playground areas; loads and unloads heavy and bulky objects and materials from trucks. May operate light duty equipment on relief, training or emergency basis. Cleans and properly maintains tools; bags leaves; fills out vehicle maintenance reports; replenishes supplies; maintains effective working conditions of necessary tools and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works inside and outside and will be sent home in inclement weather; is exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat, constant noise, dust and dirt. Must be available to work May 19, 2008 - August 18, 2008, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and weekends as needed.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: Some knowledge of manual tasks involved in lawn maintenance and custodial duties. Knowledge in the operation of a motor vehicle. Knowledge of safety precautions needed to operate lawn equipment and hand tools.

Skills/Abilities: Must be able to write, speak, hear and deal with the public. Must be able to safely operate mowers, weedeaters, edger and hand tools including rakes, shovels, hoes, hammers, screwdrivers, pruning shears and wrenches. Must be able to drive truck, van or car. Must be able to read and have decision making ability.

Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly sees and hears; frequently carries up to 56-70 lbs., holds up to 56-70 lbs., pushes up to 56-70 lbs., lifts up to 56-70lbs., pulls up to 56-70 lbs., drags up to 56-70 lbs., reaches, stands, stoops, squats, twists body, cleans, drives vehicle, kneels, and walks; infrequently bends, crawls, sorts, sits, writes by hand.

Non-essential: Uses a calculator, climbs and runs.

Education/Experience: Completion of eight (8) school grades; lawn maintenance experience preferred.

Other: Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
