DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions: Operates and acts a working leader for those who operate such major equipment as a gradall, track hoe, mini-excavator, front end loader, and /or other similar equipment; supervises the work of operators of small equipment, supervises work crews engaged in such tasks as the repair and maintenance of streets and drainage structures, loading and unloading materials, clearing or digging ditches and trenches, backfilling excavations and covering landfill refuse; maintains time sheets and records of materials used and accomplished; completes reports on a daily basis; trains lower level personnel in work methods and equipment operations; assures that equipment used is serviced and that any malfunctions are reported; performs minor repairs on equipment; sets work pace and is responsible for enforcement of safety regulations; may perform manual tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be available to work 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; overtime when necessary. Works outside in all kinds of weather, exposed to constant/extreme noise; works in trenches/ditches and around mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume/odor, dust and vapor hazards; subject to 24 hour call out in emergency situations.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the operating characteristics and servicing of assigned heavy equipment; considerable knowledge of the work hazards and safety precautions associated with equipment and operations; considerable knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment.

Skills/Abilities: Skilled in the operation and servicing of various types of heavy equipment; ability to make minor operating adjustments and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment; ability to deal with supervisors, co-workers, and public in a professional manner; ability to operate all equipment in assigned area of responsibility; ability to perform manual labor; ability to read and write and follow oral and written instructions. Able to use a calculator.

Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly sees and hears; frequently stands, twists body, cleans, drives, writes by hand, uses a calculator, carries objects weighing up to 20 lbs., drags objects weighing up to 50 lbs., lifts objects weighing up to 100 labs., pulls and pushes objects weighing up to 80 lbs.

Education/Experience: Completion of ten (10) school grades required; High school graduate or equivalent preferred; minimum two (2) years experience in road and/or ditch construction and in the operation and servicing of heavy equipment preferred; minimum of two (2) years experience in gradall/drainage/construction work preferred; one (1) year supervisory experience preferred.

Other: Must possess a valid Class B/CDL driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Class B/CDL driver's licenses with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas Class B/CDL. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
