DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions: Assists clients, including City departments, boards, and commissions by providing legal advice; as lead counsel, prepares for and participates in litigation and administrative hearings; attends meetings as required; assists in drafting and reviewing City ordinances and other legal documents; provides information to citizens.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works indoors in normal office environments. Must be available to work 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday; extended hours as needed.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: Knowledge of principles of civil, criminal and business law, and of the methods and practices of pleading; knowledge of judicial procedures, rules of evidence, and methods and sources of legal research; knowledge of municipal law.

Skills/Abilities: Ability to analyze, appraise and organize facts, evidence and precedents and to present such material in a clear and logical form, written and/or oral; ability to present and argue cases in court; ability to negotiate, persuade and compromise; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, court officials and the public.

Physical Requirements: Essential: Constantly sees and hears; frequently sits, walks, stands, operates PC, writes by hand, bends; infrequently lifts, carries pushes and pulls objects weighing up to 50 lbs, stoops, kneels, squats.

Education/Experience: Graduation from a recognized School of Law; four (4) years experience in the practice of law with emphasis in civil litigation. Municipal legal experience preferred.

Other: Admission to the Bar of the State of Texas. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
