911 Operations Center Employee of the Year for 2011
Sarah Jill Murphy was selected as the 911 Operations Employee of the Year for 2011. Sarah is a 911 Dispatcher and has worked for the City of Beaumont for 4 ½ years.
In August of 2011 Sarah answered a call regarding an elderly man who was disoriented and possibly afflicted with Alzheimer’s. His car had broken down in the parking lot of a local gas station and he didn’t know where he was. After officers arrived on the scene, they gave Sarah the name of the elderly man and she began to search for contact information for his family. Officers also gave Sarah the name of the elderly man’s auto insurance agent and phone number. Sarah called the insurance agent and told them of the situation. She asked if they had any contact phone numbers listed on the policy. After determining that they had contact numbers, Sarah asked the agent to call and let them know their loved one had been located. She advised them he was all right, and that the family needed to call the Beaumont Police Department for further details.
The gentleman’s daughter called and told us that she had been looking for her father all afternoon and that he suffers from dementia. The elderly man was transported to the Beaumont Police Department, where he waited for his family to arrive from Friendswood.
Because Sarah went above and beyond, and was thinking out of the box, the elderly man was reunited with his family and is home safe in Friendswood.
