The Clean Community Department
provides a wide range of programs and services for the City of Beaumont.
It is of the utmost importance to this department to foster a
partnership with citizens to make all neighborhoods in the City of
Beaumont a clean and attractive place to live. With your help and City
resources, this endeavor will certainly be successful.
Holiday Collection Schedule No Services will be provided on the following holidays:
-
New Year's Day
-
Fourth of July
-
Thanksgiving Day
-
Christmas Day
All
other holidays are regular work days for all collections and the
landfill.
When any of the above listed holidays fall on a collection day,
the collection schedule will shift to the following day. This will
result in the last collection day being on the Friday of that
holiday week. For instance, there will be no collection Thanksgiving
Day (Thursday), therefore, the regular Thursday collection day will
be moved to Friday.

The Solid Waste Management
Division provides an integrated collection plan which includes the
following services:
-
Once
per week garbage collection
-
Once
per week small yard waste collection
-
Once
per week used motor oil and oil filter collection
-
Twice
per month heavy trash collection
All
materials must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on collection day.
Garbage Collection
With yard waste removed from the garbage
containers, once a week garbage collection will be sufficient for most
residences. All garbage other than heavy trash items (old furniture,
household furnishings, yard waste, etc.) must be placed inside your
90-gallon container for pickup (waste that is outside the container will
not be collected.) Items which could be reused should be donated to
charity or other organizations whenever possible. We suggest that you
don't place odor-producing garbage (such as seafood waste, meats and old
foods, etc.) in your 90-gallon container until collection day. If
possible, refrigerate or freeze these items, then place in container on
collection day.
If one
garbage container is not sufficient for your needs, the following
optional services are available for additional fees:
One additional 90-gallon
garbage container $2.50/month
Two additional 90-gallon garbage containers $5.00/month
If optional services are
obtained and then discontinued, there will be a six month waiting period
to reapply for optional services. In order to receive an optional
service, application must be made through the Clean Community
Administration office or by completing and returning the following form
to our office. Please call 842-1483 for more information.
Additional containers will be delivered within two working days after
receipt of application. Please call 842-1483 for more information.
Garbage containers must be placed curb side by 7 a.m. on collection
day and removed from the curb by 8 p.m. on the same day. Residents
should not leave garbage containers at the curb overnight following
collection day.
Recycling
Due to budget considerations, the curbside recycling program was
discontinued on September 30, 2001.
Recycling
has been an expensive program that has cost the city an average of
$300,000 per year for the past nine years. Many people have thought that
the recycling was a money making program, but this has never been the
case.
Citizens that wish to recycle
may take their materials to Gulf Coast Recycling at 1995 Cedar Street.
They are located at the corner of Fourth and Cedar streets in Beaumont.
Gulf Coast Recycling accepts all grades of paper, #1 & #2 plastic
containers and aluminum cans. They have a 24-hour, 7 days a week,
recycling drop off center at the front of the plant for your
convenience.
The City
recycles yard waste through our composting program. Approximately 25% of
all materials collected at the curb by city trucks is composted and a
significant amount of the finished compost is returned to citizens at no
cost to them. To compost, yard waste must be separated from all other
trash. Please bag your small yard waste (grass, leaves, and small
branches) for weekly collection on your garbage collection day. Do not
put small yard waste in your garbage can. Separate large yard waste from
all other trash for collection twice a month. Separate yard waste and
other heavy trash into two different piles. The separation of these
materials will allow us to collect yard waste for recycling through the
compost program. See sections on Small Yard Waste and Heave Trash/Large
Yard Waste for details.
The
collection and recycling of used motor oil is a service provided by the
City. The following section explains the program.
Used Motor Oil
Collection
Used motor oil and filters generated from "do-it-yourself" oil
changes are collected from curbside each garbage collection day.
Please
follow these guidelines to ensure that your used motor oil is collected
and recycled:
-
Drain
used motor oil into plastic clear or opaque white containers with
screw on caps.
-
Never
mix oil with other fluids. Any substance other than used motor oil
will contaminate the oil.
-
Make
sure the cap is screwed on tightly to prevent spillage.
-
Place
gallon jugs at the curb on your collection day (place jugs
approximately three feet from the garbage can and/or small yard
waste)
-
Empty
used jugs will be left on the curb to be used for future oil
changes.
-
IN
ADDITION, used oil filters will also be collected curbside. Place
oil filter in a plastic bag next to the oil for curbside collection.
Small
Yard Waste Collection
Small yard waste (such as leaves, grass
clippings, small twigs and branches) will be collected from your curb on
garbage collection day. Small yard waste must be placed in either paper
or plastic bags, or in a separate container. Separate container(s) must
be no larger than 32 gallons or heavier than 50 pounds and placed
curbside at least three feet from your garbage can on collection day.
All containers, except plastic/paper bags, will be emptied and left
curbside for reuse.
Yard
waste is prohibited from being placed in the 90-gallon container. It is
very important to separate all yard waste from your garbage. Grass
clippings, leaves, small twigs/branches can be composted in the City
compost operation at the Beaumont Municipal Landfill.
Heavy
Trash/Large Yard Waste Collection
Heavy trash is collected twice monthly, according to zip codes. Heavy
trash includes large yard waste, furniture, appliances/white goods, and
miscellaneous heavy debris.
Large Yard Waste includes:
large
tree limbs & brush. Limbs & branches up to eight feet in length
should be placed curbside for heavy trash collection. Limbs must be
cut to a maximum eight foot length. Tree trunks larger than 12" in
diameter must be cut to a maximum three foot length.
Furniture includes:
tables, chairs, mattress/box springs, etc.
Appliances/White Goods includes:
refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers/dryers, hot water heaters
and miscellaneous metal appliances.
Miscellaneous Heavy Debris includes:
wood
items, large boxes, moving debris, etc.
Heavy
trash is not collected by city crews from businesses (i.e. churches,
offices, stores, apartment building, etc.). This service is only
provided to single family residential customers. Heavy trash from any
other entity must be transported to the landfill by the generator.
Heavy trash collection is not
provided for clearing vacant property (i.e. lots, acreage),
construction, demolition or renovation/remodeling construction debris.
These items must be transported to the landfill by the generator.
Citizens with proof of Beaumont residency (i.e. utility bill, driver's
license, etc.) will not be charged for landfill disposal if they haul
the debris themselves from their single family residences. Contractors
such as roofers, lawn services, tree trimmers, etc., will be charged for
disposal. There is also a charge for disposal of trash from businesses
regardless of who the hauler is.
Please place all material at
curbside by 7:00 a.m. on collection day (see schedule below). Please
note that two days are allowed for each area. All material must be
stacked neatly in separate piles and not under low overhead utility
lines or trees.
Separation of Waste Placed on the Curb
Citizens can help control the cost of Solid Waste Management by
separating waste when placing it on the curb. Appliances and tires are
recycled and yard waste that is not mixed with general trash and paper
is composted. The cost of recycling and composting is considerably less
than burying those items in the landfill. Approximately 25% of all waste
collected by the city is yard waste. If it is mixed with other
materials, it cannot be composted and is therefore buried in the
landfill at approximately twice the cost of composting. Citizens are
asked to separate waste on the curb in accordance with the following
diagram to help us in our efforts to provide efficient and
cost-effective services:

Beaumont residents are allowed
to dispose of four automobile tires per year. No more than four tires
may be placed curbside for heavy trash collection. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE
TIRES IN THE 90-GALLON GARBAGE CONTAINER FOR DISPOSAL. Tire dealers are
not allowed to dispose of tires in the landfill, but must dispose of old
tires through a tire recycling facility.
The Beaumont Municipal Landfill
is located at 5895 Lafin Road (off Fannett Road) and is open from 8:00
a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. On Saturdays, the landfill
hours are 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., for use by individual single family
homeowners only. The landfill is closed on New Years Day, Fourth of
July, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Compost product is
distributed to citizens between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays
