The Animal Control
Section of the Environmental Health Division provides vaccination and
boarding, issuance of kennel licenses, dead animal removal, and animal
traps. This division also patrols the City to eliminate nuisances and
threats to public health that may result from animals running at large.
Responsibilities of this division include enforcement of a leash law
requiring confinement of dogs to the owner's premises, as well as stray
animal impoundment and carcass removal from streets and rights-of-way.
Animal Control also
offers educational literature on all aspects of animal control and has a
"Pet Adoption Program." Staff investigate complaints from citizens
ranging from animal cruelty to the number of animals kept at a single
location. This section is also responsible for emergencies 24 hours a
day through the Fire Department dispatch office at (409) 880-3901.
